Fluking for the most part is very good finally. Sure you get a trip with no drift, or too fast, or a day with a SE wind. That all hinders the bite. When conditions are right the fluke hotel fills to capacity!! Rich Leathery continues his streak of a limit catch and Zemp did it once again boxing his 6 man limit and playing catch and release with quality keepers for another few hours before finally saying uncle. A very good problem to have. Fish to 7 lbs on most trips. Im just hoping this bite continues.!!!
The signs were there, then it happened!! A few days my crew worked very hard in very warm temps, no drift and just enough fish. then it happened. Zempe and his crew after Bob and hi crew set the bar earlier in the week with a solid 8lber broke the fluking open with catching the 6 man limit by 8 am. Catch and release for the next 2 -1/2 hours captured another 2 dozen quality keepers. Best day of the year by far and gives me hope that the fish finally arrived.
Still not where it belongs but it is getting better with more short life and just enough keepers to provide enough sweet meat to go around.
This is Ians 2 try for tuna, last year only Mahi and White Marlin bit for him. With the reports of the big Btfs and seeing them first hand last week, we were determined to get him a tuna bite. A beautiful ride under a moonlit sky got us to the grounds at day break. Lines in and we all expected a bite immediately. That didn’t happen. But it did happen 3 hours after we had our spread out. The center long got bit, the 50 started screaming and it was game on!! 3 guys each got a turn on this fish, and then they got another turn, and another. Finally after a 1-1/2 battle we were able to bring this beautiful tuna on board! High fives, and a well earned celebration lasted for awhile we’ll after this fish was bled and tucked in the bed of crushed ice to ensure the best quality meat this fish provides. Sure enough after we had the spread out it did not take long for the right long rigger goes down. Another very hard battle and the BFT was next to the boat. Not quite as large as the first fish but still very respectable at over 125lbs!! Ian and his men raised the white flag and said they had enough!! can’t blame them.. A super smooth ride in and plenty of celebration once we arrived back at Twin Lights!! not to mention the beautiful BFT fillets…
A beautiful day off shore however we could not get these big BFT’s to eat!! We seen plenty, huge schools but not one taker. At least the weather was nice, plenty of porpoises whales and the tuna were there too.
A few trips with the A team and my A- team showed some promise but not much to show for their hard work. The fish that were caught were nice size but the action was slow as we hit many of my favorite early spots.
The season started with very good fishing in the usual locations with very decent size fish. That lasted for almost 2 weeks then mother nature took over and for the next 2 months it was difficult to find a consistent bite. My crews fished hard as we tried to find a bite. Way too many slow trips and just a few very good trips. Weather sucked and the fishing did too!! However the bass were huge this year. lots of trophy size bass when I could find them. Many of my charters elected to go big or go home as opposed to chunking the small resident bass. Thank you all that fished with us this year!!!
A few very special trips. However there were also quite a few due that is so far from what we are used too this time of year!! Only a handful of blitzes and loads of wind and cold ocean temps. Lack of bait until the middle of the month and a big lack of bass. Pics are in my gallery.
Most trips had very good fishing, a few found very slow fishing as well. Decent size fish, all styles of fishing are being used trying to put a catch together!
Another week but the same old story!! No rhyme or reason to the very inconsistent bass fishing. Weather once again making things very difficult! ON the plus side the fish are very good size !! Pics in my gallery
